………………a film about love and passions.

“Yeh Nazdeekiyan” is a film about relationships within and without marriage. Within a conventional storyline it takes up a bold and serious theme in determining the true virtues that should be essential in a fulfilling man-woman relationship—Whether ‘in marriage’ or ‘in sin’.

Sunil is a highly successful and highly creative advertising man. His colleagues and friends among whom he commands a very high respect, are very fond of him and feel warmly towards him. Invariably he gets drawn into minor and not too serious flirtatious affairs here and there. But the truly complete relationship he shares is with his wife Shobhana who has been the total woman in his life for nearly thirteen years. They so much belong to and are so secure with each other that Sunil’s minor romantic escapades elsewhere are never taken as a threat or a breach of trust between them. Sunil indulges in them more as a game and to bring a little spice into his working life.

But then appears a new force which brings turbulence to the harmony in Sunil and Shobhana’s life. It’s young, vivacious and beautiful Kiran who is the leading model of the country and comes in contact with Sunil during the shooting of a series of commercials directed by him. A relationship which first begins rather reluctantly as Sunil tries to restrain himself from getting involved, explodes passionately one eventful night and gradually develops into a strong and vibrant force. For the first time in his life Sunil is confronted with the situation where he finds himself in love with two women at the same time. And the love of both the women towards him is equally selfless and sincere.

Despite a desperate attempt to save the situation the new force rocks their marriage and Shobhana and Sunil part. Shobhana realizes that for years she had lost her identity and she sees this development also as a unique opportunity to find her own being and search and develop her own directions. When she leaves Sunil she is a woman moving positively forward rather than a lost soul, brooding, bitter and revengeful.

Kiran gives up every thing, her career, her belongings and relationships in order to give total care to the man she is in love with and moves in with Sunil. But gradually they discover that the subtle and sensitive tunings which existed between Shobhana and him were missing and passion was the main base of their relationship even though at least Kiran wanted to totally assimilate herself in Sunil’s body and mind. Sunil realized that his sheer existence was not complete without Shobhana. It was her presence in his life that gave the definite dimension to his being. Having reached the futility of their relationship Kiran resigns herself from Sunil’s world and leaves him.

Sunil relaises that he is incomplete and unfunctional without the woman who is in evert pore of his body and mind and returns to Shobhana.

And so ‘a man’ returns to ‘a woman’ instead of ‘a husband’ returning to ‘a wife’ and that is “YEH NAZDEEKIYAN”.
